Sichuan Moon by Andre Chiang

Regional Chinese cuisine in a modern spot
VERIFIED LUXURY
Sichuan Moon by Andre Chiang is one of the five fine-dining restaurants inside the new Wynn Palace in Macau. Serving regional Chinese dishes with a contemporary twist, this elegant spot is helmed by respected Taiwanese chef Andre Chiang.

Although the parasol mosaic that welcomes you to Sichuan Moon doesn't really allude to the dishes on offer, it does reflect the luxurious nature of the restaurant. Somewhat understated, if only compared to the wider Wynn Palace resort, the interior of Sichuan Moon is calming thanks to the cream and beige tones throughout.

The tranquil color palette allows the restaurant's centerpiece to truly shine. Look up to admire a custom Murano glass chandelier made up of hundreds of blue and amber butterflies. The enticing piece sets the stage for the magical evening ahead.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • At Sichuan Moon, the menu features authentic dishes from its namesake province. Along with regional cuisine, there also is a selection of fusion dishes, such as Maine lobster poached in a Sichuan chili broth.
  • A very Las Vegas-style addition to Sichuan Moon is the show kitchen. Both entertaining and giving a sense of reassurance that you can see exactly what is happening, the open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs theatrically prepare your meal.
  • The six private rooms offer a more intimate dining experience.
  • Though the look and feel of this establishment are exceptional, the tea menu may be its most memorable aspect. From scented jasmine pearl to lychee black and white peony, the vibrant roster pours with potential.
  • Get a taste of Chinese culture in the tea lounge, an elegantly adorned space where you can savor rare brews served by tea masters. Watch as these epicurean experts prepare your sip using olive pit charcoal and boiled glacier water from Sichuan's Gongga mountains, before serving the perfect brew in handmade bamboo cups.
Things to Know
  • The list of Asian-inspired cocktails that have been designed to complement the food are finished tableside, so order one for your own private little show.
  • With just 48 seats in the main dining room, it is advisable to book in advance, particularly at periods of traditionally high occupancy in Macau.
  • Children 10 and older are welcome at the Macau restaurant, but all guests are required to dress in a refined style. That means trousers, closed shoes and sleeves for men.
The Food
  • As referenced in the Macau restaurant's name, the kitchen specializes in elegantly prepared Sichuan cuisine. A multi-course menu features classic plates like hot and sour soup, dan-dan noodles, and yu-xiang (stir-fried) eggplant.
  • Seafood plays a starring role in many of Sichuan Moon's dishes, such as burnt scallop with green chili or crispy sea cucumber with stuffed oxtail in peanut broth.
  • A Sichuan Pickle Master is on hand to ensure each perfectly preserved bite is bright and flavorful.
The Design
  • A custom wall at the entrance features a parasol created from colorful glass mosaic tiles, while an intimate five-seat semi-circular marble and leather bar to the left of the entrance provides room to relax before entering the restaurant.
  • The contemporary sensibility of Sichuan Moon is reflected in the design. Leather and gold doors, marble floors inset with gold carpet, and a butterfly mosaic behind the small bar are relatively subtle yet luxurious touches.
  • Glistening above the dining room is a stunning chandelier made of hundreds of custom-made blue and amber Murano glass butterflies — a perfectly elegant addition to the resort's floral decor.
  • Sichuan Moon was designed by hospitality experts Rockwell Group from New York City.
