  • We can’t even compare your average hotel gym to the gym at the Houstonian. As a private club for much of the city of Houston, we’re talking 175,000 square feet of fitness wonderland, 250 state-of-the art cardio and is constantly ranked as one the top fitness clubs in the nation.
  • Just steps from the lobby is the hotel’s Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa, Trellis, The Spa at The Houstonian. With 21 treatment rooms and a full salon, you can lounge by the saltwater indoor float pool with a glass of citrus-infused water, or indulge in the endless array of treatments.
  • From the rustic fireplace in the lobby to the mahogany-accented walls, the décor pays homage to all things Texan. While at first the lobby atrium of this luxury hotel feels a bit like a hunting lodge, you’ll quickly appreciate the easy elegance in the overstuffed sofas and the regal staircase.
  • It’s hard to beat the Houston heat without taking a dip in the pool. The pool at this Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel takes advantage of their lush, wooded property by featuring not one but three pristine outdoor pools – top-notch lap pool complete with anti-wave lane lines, a resort pool boasting a 32-foot slide through the rock-scape and a tranquility therapeutic garden pool.
  • Hidden from the hectic life of the country’s fourth largest city, The Houstonian certainly feels like it is in a remote location. That’s the beauty of this resort; it feels a million miles away, but in reality you are less than a mile from the 610 Loop, minutes from the shopping mecca of the Galleria and a short drive from Houston’s financial district.
Things to Know
  • The hotel is set among an expansive, secluded wooded property. Although it’s in the city, you’ll feel like you’re out in the woods while staying here, offering plenty of outdoor adventures to enjoy, including hiking, a running track and three glistening pools.
  • Be sure the schedule a session at the hotel’s Houstonian Club fitness center. You can really spend a full day here making use of all the complimentary workout classes, sports courts, personal training offerings, café, and more.
  • The hotel is located not too far from the Galleria shopping mall and neighborhoods offering dining, entertainment and shopping. Just take advantage of the hotel’s complimentary shuttle that can take you to various places nearby by calling the front desk or stopping by the concierge to get the schedule and make an appointment.
The Rooms
  • The guest rooms at The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa are spacious and feature a comfortable sitting area as well as a comfortable sleeping area. The interior design of the rooms is traditional, they feature white paneled walls with crown molding and floor-to-ceilings windows.
  • When we stayed, our room looked out to the woods offering a scenic view and privacy. You’ll find a plush bed with a flat-screen TV, an iHome iPod dock, a mini-bar packed with snacks and beverages, a work desk with a Wi-Fi connection as well as a small sofa and ottoman.
  • The bathroom is on the smaller side but it will be packed with L’Occitane-branded  amenities and will have a dark granite countertop.
  • You’ll find neutral colors throughout the room with a burgundy floral carpeting, heavy floral upholstery, gold, green and brown colors, dark wooden furnishing. The cream duvet on the bed provides contrast to the dark colors as does a red blanket at the bottom.
  • Plush, king-sized pillows top the bed. Since the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel is set within the woods, you’ll find guest rooms feature a lot of privacy.
The Look
  • The design style of The Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa is classic and traditional with a warm, upscale lodge-like setting. Set within 27 acres of woods, the hotel is in a secluded environment — definitely  not what you might expect to find in Houston.
  • Inside the lobby, the warm colors of the furnishings, high ceilings, plentiful wood accents and a large stone fireplace at the center of the sitting area create a very warm, rustic and welcoming environment that give it a country club-like feel.
  • Sleek hardwood floors, paneled walls and dark, rich rugs and carpeting give the lobby and public areas of the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel a very warm and woodsy feeling as well offering views of the woods and trees surrounding the property.
