Park Hyatt Chicago

The Magnificent Mile's sleek, chic spot
VERIFIED LUXURY
The spirit of Park Hyatt Chicago aligns with what the Windy City is known for: stunning art and design, great food and welcoming Midwestern hospitality. Its tony Gold Coast location just off the Magnificent Mile speaks to the type of place it is — a chic luxury hotel with contemporary, design-savvy style to spare.

Sophistication and friendliness are not mutually exclusive at this Forbes Travel Guide Recommended. Yes, expensive artwork adorns the walls and the dark and glamorous lobby makes for a dramatic entrance, but the staff is invariably amiable and incessantly working to learn the names and the whims of its guests.

The library located off the lobby has cozy sofas and chairs, modern art books ready for perusal and an adjacent “kitchen” where you can treat yourself to tea and coffee while lounging about and peering through the floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto bustling Chicago Avenue.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Guests can take advantage of Park Hyatt Chicago’s location near some of the city’s most lauded attractions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Lake Michigan and the observatory at the towering John Hancock Center.
  • The hotel is located right on Michigan Avenue near all of Chicago’s major shopping. Ralph Lauren is right across the street; designer boutique-lined Oak Street is a five-minute walk to the north; and just about every shop you can think lines the Magnificent Mile heading south.
  • The intimate NoMI spa gives customized seasonal treatments such as facials and massages, each featuring a bite to eat from the kitchen and a corresponding healthy beverage.
  • Fitness-minded folks will appreciate the 24-hour gym with amenities like chilled scented towels, flat-screen monitors attached to cardio equipment and a three-lane lap pool with sweeping skyline views.
Things to Know
  • The lobby of the Chicago luxury hotel includes a large space when you walk in that’s set up with a sofa and chairs around a large cocktail table, with a huge Gerhard Richter Piazza del Duomo painting on a burgundy wall.
  • To the left of the main lobby is another space with a variety of seating and a pantry in the back that’s stocked with coffee, tea and even little treats from NoMI Kitchen chefs. Guests can also come here to grab bottled water or soda any time of the day.
  • Any of the specialty cocktails are fab; try the Part & Parcel with Tito's vodka, lime, grapefruit and St. Germain; and the Blubbery Cobbler with Junipero gin, fresh blueberries, Lillet and angostura bitters.
The Rooms
  • The accommodations, too, have enough space to stylishly laze and gaze. Almost every one of the spacious 198 rooms has a wide built-in window seat, as well as a comfy Eames leather chair and a large picture window.
  • Tip: Ask for a high-level, east-facing room for grandiose views of the historic Water Tower and Lake Michigan just beyond it.
  • Dressed in contemporary cherry wood furnishings and dark neutral tones, the guest rooms have thoughtful amenities such as extra large tubs (as you soak, slide open the wall to reveal the bedroom and city views), bathroom TVs and Geneva sound systems.
  • We’re especially fond of the two utterly chic designer suites — one exclusively outfitted by fashion house Bottega Veneta and the other by Giorgio Armani.
The Restaurants
  • Park Hyatt Chicago’s restaurant is a major player in the city. NoMI Kitchen serves contemporary American cuisine with a French flair and ingredients are sourced from top-tier regional and national farmers, foragers and fishers.
  • Try the glazed duck breast with truffle honey and turnips or the restaurant’s famed sushi (we love the tiger roll stuffed with shrimp tempura, snow crab, bigeye spicy tuna and avocado).
  • The vibe is elegant but not stuffy (no white tablecloths here), and the views through the curved floor-to-ceiling windows are spectacular from its seventh-floor perch.
  • The sexy little lounge adjacent to the restaurant is ideal for a pre-dinner cocktail or a late-night drink.
  • If you’re lucky enough to be in town while the weather is warm, do not miss an alfresco drink on the lovely rooftop garden patio.
