The Lanesborough Club & Spa

A sumptuous sanctuary in central London
VERIFIED LUXURY

Seconds from Hyde Park Corner, The Lanesborough Club & Spa is a lavender-scented city-center sanctuary for all the senses. Sprawled generously across nearly 18,000 square feet on the ground floor of Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star The Lanesborough, this retreat delivers exacting service, first-class facilities and a holistic approach to treatments, ensuring you’ll emerge feeling pampered from head to toe.

Classic touches, such as oil paintings, dark oak paneling and velvet armchairs, echo the 19th-century hotel, while facilities (such as the Romanesque hydro pool), Ila and La Prairie product lines and a diverse menu of services represent industry-leading ingredients and methods.

Partnerships with leading wellness, fitness and beauty experts (like Anastasia Achilleos, James Duigan and Daniel Galvin Jr.) add extra kudos to this London favorite, which attracts a well-heeled and celebrity clientele seeking results.

As you soak up everything this extra-luxe health club has to offer, you’ll find it’s much more than just a pretty space.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Luxurious décor, created by design studio 1508 London, mixes natural materials, contrasting textures and colors to cocooning effect: mahogany leather-clad walls and antique mirrors meld deliciously with peacock-toned silk wallpaper, sea-green polished plaster, gold-leaf ceilings and white onyx.
  • Spa butlers are at your beck and call. You’ll find “press for service” buttons dotted around the locker rooms, hydro pool and relaxation areas, should you need a shirt pressed, your favorite magazine or flute of champagne.
  • Signature treatments utilize British Ila and Swiss La Prairie products, with organic blue chamomile, silk from butterfly cocoons, Himalayan salt crystals and white caviar among the ingredients. From meditative crystal healing and bio-energy mud bathing to a classic manicure, there’s something at this Knightsbridge spa for everyone.
  • With reclining leather armchairs, open faux-flame fires, table lamps and an array of refreshments, the luxurious relaxation area feels like a suave cocktail lounge with a refreshingly unisex appeal.
  • The treatment rooms are some of the largest in London, with extra-wide beds that adjust to your body shape and temperature, and provide comfort during back massages with silicon face rests.

Things to Know

  • The thermal facilities and hydro pool are for the exclusive use of hotel guests and members, but there are other ways in: you’ll receive complimentary access with spa packages, and day memberships are also available.
  • Facialist to the stars Anastasia Achilleos visits this luxe London spa on Tuesdays. With A-listers flying in specially to indulge in her “The Method” treatment — which combines craniosacral therapy, LED technologies and bespoke Ila products — it’s recommended you book ahead.
  • Arrive an hour before your treatment to make the most of the thermal facilities, hydro pool and relaxation areas.
  • There’s a Daniel Galvin Jr. hair salon upstairs, offering everything from highlights to updos, making the transition from spa day to dinner a seamless one.
  • The hydrotherapy pool has the look of a Roman bath, sparkling with illuminated water. It makes for a luxurious dip, however its boutique size means you won’t be able to practice your front crawl.

The Treatments

  • All services start and end in the relaxation lounge, where you’ll find fresh and dried fruit, nuts, herbal teas and water. When you’re taken into your treatment suite, you’ll get to choose the soundtrack for your session.
  • For the ultimate couple’s experience, try the 90-minute Lanesborough Lather For Two. In the sanctuary of your private treatment suite you’ll be lathered with black soap, buffed with exfoliating cloths and slathered with warm mineral-rich mud before indulging in a steamy rhassoul session and a Silk Balm Massage.
  • One of the most popular services for mature skin is the White Caviar Brightening and Firming Facial using La Prairie products, which is particularly good for targeting redness and age spots.
  • For something different, book the Crystal Sound Healing treatment. This 30-minute session for the mind and body combines singing bowls, chanting, hands-on techniques and oils to restore clarity and wellbeing.
  • The Pure Movement Body Massage focuses on intensive stretches to reap relaxing results. There’s no oil involved, so you can enjoy this one with your clothes on, if preferred.

The Facilities

  • The London spa’s dedicated restaurant serves a menu of healthy, nutritionally balanced dishes all day long, such as matcha-berry pancakes and chicken with coconut dhal curry; 10 different milks catering to a variety of dietary requirements; and a selection of Bodyism-approved plates and shakes.
  • The Painting Room is a gilded white leather lounge where hand and foot treatments range from a shape and polish to the full La Prairie White Caviar ritual. The onyx floor below the manicure station gives you the sense that you’re sitting on a cloud.
  • Along with a pink mosaic sauna, steam room and experience shower in the ladies’ locker room, you’ll find a vanity area with mirrors, blowdry tools and Ila amenities. In the gents’ area, along with slippers and robes, there’s a bio-sauna delivering a dry heat. Both lead to the shared hydro pool area lined with toweled loungers.
  • The Bodyism fitness center is bright and well-stocked with best-in-class equipment, including a Kinesis machine for full-body conditioning and Woodway treadmills. Book in advance for a private session with celebrity trainer James Duigan.
  • To continue the pampering at home, there’s an onsite boutique selling the Ila and La Prairie products used in the treatments as well as activewear.
