Rustic-chic dining in Virginia
VERIFIED LUXURY
While staying or visiting The Lodge and Cottages at Primland, you’ll have a variety of dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as an elegant afternoon tea and bite-sized snacks to curb your afternoon hunger. The most refined setting for these options, Elements, is one of our favorite amenities that this rustic hotel has to offer.

Just through the stone-laden lobby lounge sits the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant, which features a warm, cozy aesthetic with clean white tablecloths, leather dining chairs and stunning views through oversized windows that look over the manicured grounds and wooden area beyond.

As you’d expect from a place resting in the middle of the mountains, fresh catches and just-plucked shrubs make up a big chunk of the menu here. But even with the smell of Atlantic scallops, North Carolina squab and stuffed garden peppers wafting about the kitchen, executive chef Ernest Bledsoe keeps you on your toes.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Among white tablecloths, leather dining chairs and stunning views of manicured grounds and a wooded area beyond, a sleek atmosphere allows for guests to enjoy the contemporary American fare peacefully and quietly.
  • When your take your eyes off the surroundings and put them onto your menu, you will notice a selection of beautifully plated contemporary American dishes such as Chesapeake Bay wild striped bass and slow-braised short ribs.
  • It doesn’t matter if you order crawfish and grits or heirloom tomatoes and handmade mozzarella, expect your dish to be plated like a museum exhibit. It’s no wonder then that gentlemen must adhere to a jacket-required dress code at dinner.
Things to Know
  • Unlike other restaurants on the property, such as 19th Pub and Stables Saloon, Elements has a distinctly upscale atmosphere.
  • If you’re in the mood for pairing your plate with the perfect bottle of wine, an expert sommelier is on hand to help guide you through Primland’s extensive collection of labels.
The Design
  • Playing into its rustic Virginia setting, Elements has a level of earthy comfort with upholstered seating and wood details, while still maintaining a sense of candle-lit, white-tablecloth luxury.

  • The lighting is warm and romantic, encouraging you to sit back and relax. A large, contemporary glass fireplace glows in the heart of the dining room and chandeliers flicker overhead.

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows framed by airy linen drapes cover the far wall, gifting you beautiful views of the Virginia landscape and wildlife casually strolling by.
