Jean-Georges Philadelphia

Elevated French-fusion fare in Philly
VERIFIED LUXURY

It’s hard to say which brought more excitement to Philadelphia, the opening of the new Comcast Technology Center — the city’s tallest building — or the highly anticipated debut of world-renowned French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s restaurant on its top floor.

Vongerichten has taken fine-dining in Philadelphia to a new level — literally. Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center’s gleaming restaurant floats among the clouds and offers panoramas of the skyline and some of the City of Brotherly Love’s most popular attractions. Stealing attention from the view, however, is Vongerichten’s stellar food.

Known for melding French and Asian flavors, Vongerichten brings his refined fusion cuisine here. Whether dining at Jean-Georges for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you are sure to end up with a taste-bud-tantalizing experience.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Perched on the 59th floor of a skyscraper, Jean-Georges is all about the views. The restaurant boasts 40-foot floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over skyline vistas.
  • Jean-Georges’ menu pairs inventive new dishes developed just for the Philadelphia restaurant with some of the classics from his New York City outpost. While the selections change seasonally, a few plant-based plates (like mushroom risotto) will always be on the menu.
  • Architect Norman Foster and artistic director Jeff Leatham designed the space with the vision of bringing the outside in. Mirrors frame the ceiling’s windows and reflect back the setting sun, sparkling night sky and twinkling lights of the city, making for an unforgettable setting.
  • With the brand-new Comcast Technology Center offering unprecedented views of Philadelphia, you’ll want as much time as possible to soak it all in. Come to dinner early or stay late to enjoy a cocktail at JG SkyHigh, the 60th-floor lounge peeks out across the city and overlooks the restaurant.
  • Worth just as much attention as Vongerichten cuisine is Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia pastry chef Ryan Schmitt’s beautiful creations. Consider the chocolate passionfruit mousse or coconut semifreddo, but if you don’t have the room, take comfort in knowing you will likely be gifted with a complimentary multi-tiered platter of petit fours.

Things to Know

  • On the weekends, JG SkyHigh heats up with live music in the evenings. You can enjoy it from some of the tables in the restaurant, but make the most of it by stopping by for an after-dinner drink.
  • The dress code at Jean-Georges Philadelphia is business casual.
  • Reservations should be made in advance at the Philadelphia restaurant, but if you can’t get a table, consider eating at the bar (there are no bad seats here) or enjoying drinks and small plates at JG SkyHigh.

The Food

  • In the morning, fuel up with healthy fare like fresh-pressed juices and a vanilla chia bowl with Brazil nuts, dates, coco nibs, hemp and fruit. Or opt for plates like brioche French toast or dosa (South Indian breakfast crepes) with sambal, eggs, cheddar and mint.
  • Don’t pass on the opportunity to try Jean-Georges’ egg toast and caviar with herbs at lunch or dinner. The small, indulgent bite is a revelation.
  • The dinner menu offers à la carte options like yellowfin tuna noodles, black sea bass, and honeynut squash agnolotti. But if you’re ready to go big, try the seasonal tasting menu.

The Chef

  • Born just outside Alsace, France, Vongerichten began his culinary training under the watchful eye of acclaimed French chefs Paul Haeberlin, Paul Bocuse and Louis Outhier. He then went on to work and travel in Asia, where he developed a love for the local cuisine and began blending flavors.
  • While Vongerichten is incredibly hands-on with the Philadelphia restaurant, he now has dozens of dining rooms around the world. When he is not onsite, chef de cuisine Nicholas Ugliarolo (a seasoned Jean-Georges veteran) runs the kitchen.
  • If you enjoy your meal, check out one of Vongerichten’s many cookbooks like Cooking at Home with a Four-Star Chef, which won him a James Beard Award in 1999.
