The Grill Room

VERIFIED LUXURY
Dining at The Grill Room (located inside the Windsor Court Hotel) may be one of the most luxurious ways to spend an evening in the city. The restaurant is known for its fabulous contemporary American cuisine, offering a menu that changes monthly and features locally grown and organic foods whenever possible,

The interior design of The Grill Room won’t let you forget that you’re in an establishment called the Windsor Court. The restaurant's design style adheres to a conservative British aesthetic, with a dining room fit for the upper echelons of society.

The bar and lounge area of the restaurant have the look and feel of a traditional English country club, with leather seating and rich dark wood taking the place of the white cloth-laden tables and regal seating found throughout the dining room. On the walls, British colonial paintings contribute to the overall design, pulled together by large ornate chandeliers and massive vases filled with fresh roses.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Everyone at The Grill Room is very friendly, and whether you visit for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, servers are always happy to answer any questions you might have about the menu, the day’s seasonal specials, what kind of classic concoctions the bartender can mix up for you or even how your amuse bouche was prepared.

• The bay windows at The Grill Room located inside the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans offer prime views of the hotel’s lovely courtyard.

• Chances are your eyes will be turned to the live entertainment, which may showcase a pianist tickling the ivories of a grand piano, a jazz trio getting their groove on or a soulful blues singer backed up by a brass band.

• The Four-Star restaurant occupies a prime locale in the heart of the central business district in downtown New Orleans, within walking distance of the Mississippi River, French Quarter and Garden District and only a block from the Arts District.

The Food
• Try the bananas foster, prepared sous vide (read: slow-cooked in a warm water bath), with a lovely scoop of ice cream on top. (Bananas foster is said to have been invented just a few blocks away at the French Quarter’s historic Brennan’s Restaurant.)

• The menu at The Grill Room executes on a repertoire of contemporary American cuisine with a Creole accent. Local favorites such as crawfish, Andouille sausage, and sweet potato anything and everything find their way into staple dishes such as grilled salmon or fried chicken.

• The velvety Hudson Valley foie gras is a prime first course selection served over a crispy bacon beignet, along with pickled apple slices, a buttered date, and brown butter pecans topped with a brittle slice of fried sage.

• For your second course, opt for the creamy white bean soup, served with shaved black truffle mushrooms, fried kale and cracked black pepper.

• The flaky white Gulf Coast snapper is a local specialty, served with creamy potato chowder, fried oysters (another local favorite), and horseradish foam.
The Drinks
• A local specialty cocktail to try would be the Ramos Gin Fizz, invented in the late 1800s on the same street The Grill Room is located on today. While the original recipe called for the drink to be shaken for a whopping 12 minutes, your bartender’s abbreviated process is just as effective, making for a creamy, nuanced liquid dessert.

• Your friendly bartender will shake up fine classic cocktails or inventive crafty creations. You’d be wise to try New Orleans-born drinks such as the Sazerac, invented in the city in the mid-1800s and made with rye whiskey, simple syrup, Peychaud’s bitters and a twist of lemon.

• If you visit The Grill Room for breakfast, order a morning cocktail such as the Brandy Milk Punch, an Elder Blossom, or a standard Bloody Mary.
