Our Inspector's Highlights
•While the table itself is definitely striking, all of the other elements gracing it are notably simple: China is solid white, made by Limoges and Rosenthal, glassware is from Schott Zwiesel and all of the flatware is made by Fortessa. The end result is a table setting that looks simultaneously chic and beachy.
•Order the pasta. All the pastas here are house-made and are the real showstoppers. The Recommended restaurant’s claim to fame is its spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil, but our all-time favorite is the duck and foie gras ravioli, which comes with drizzled with a reduced Marsala sauce.
Things to Know
•Sitting on a strip of miles of hotels, the restaurant is tucked away within the famed Fontainebleau Miami Beach, three miles from South Beach and steps from the Atlantic Ocean.
•The restaurant’s name actually means “the little shoe” in Italian, while the phrase “fare la scarpetta” refers to the action of sopping up sauce on a plate with a chunk of bread. Given the array of pastas and flavorful dishes served, this is one restaurant that definitely lives up to its name.
•If you’re flying into South Florida, getting to the restaurant from the nearby Miami International Airport is a simple 12-mile drive.
•When dining leave the beachwear in your guestroom and change into something that matches the “elegant casual” dress code. You won’t need a suit and tie, but flip-flops and bathing suits are discouraged.
