Mizumi at Wynn Macau

Japanese tradition in modern Macau
VERIFIED LUXURY
Blond brick walls and large windows overlooking the lush grounds of Wynn Macau provide a serene backdrop for enjoying the three styles of traditional Japanese fare found at Mizumi at Wynn Macau.

Three award-winning chefs spearhead the efforts behind the restaurant’s sushi, tempura and teppanyaki dishes, but the specialty here is kaiseki, a traditional multi-course Japanese meal. Ingredients are flown in Fresh from Japan, including more than 20 kinds of fish, fruit and vegetables.

Intimate counter service is available for those who want to interact with a master chef, while the main dining room is perfect for larger groups.

Be sure to finish off your meal with a drink from the extensive selection of sake; shochu, which, unlike sake, is distilled; and umeshu, a Japanese wine made with green plums. It’s a pleasant experience in every sense.

Things to Know
  • Mizumi at Wynn Macau, which looks out onto the courtyard area that is home to the pool and well-manicured gardens, is located on the ground floor of the resort.
  • Because of the many special, labor-intensive menu offerings dreamed up by chef Hiroshi Kagata, and the fact that a number of ingredients are flown from Japan, Mizumi is only open for dinner on Wednesday to Monday. The Five-Star restaurant is closed on Tuesday.
  • The official dress code at Mizumi is casual elegant, which means that the casual wear (like a sleeveless shirt) that some gamblers sport on the casino floor would not be appropriate here. Gentlemen must wear long pants, a shirt with sleeves and closed-toed shoes, while women will be comfortable in a skirt or pants and a top, or any dress.
  • Because there is somewhat limited seating (if you don't include the private dining rooms) and this Five-Star restaurant is more formal, reservations are recommended.
The Food
  • For a small and refreshing bite, order a selection of sushi off theà la carte menu. Much of the fish is locally sourced, ensuring that rolls, from tuna and salmon to abalone and Hokkaido sea urchin, are supremely fresh.

  • If you’re still hungry, the A5 wagyu beef is another regionally sourced classic that you will not want to miss. Raised on the Yaeyama Islands off the coast of Okinawa, it is of the highest grade and prepared to perfection.

  • The teppanyaki set menu allows you to taste a variety of delicacies. Blending classic Japanese flavors with more experimental concepts, seafood selections include roasted seabass in sea urchin sauce and hairy crab rice traditionally prepared in an earthen pot.
The Design
  • Like Japanese culture itself, Mizumi at Wynn Macau is classic and understated. Overlooking a courtyard with gardens, the Five-Star restaurant has a muted décor, full of exposed beige brick walls with tables, chairs and design elements constructed from wood.
  • Dark exposed ceiling beams, soft lantern-like lighting and a floral carpet set an intimate mood.
  • Touches like a framed kimono on the wall, a ceiling meant to evoke origami and the sake barrels with interwoven bamboo slats that frame the main entrance all bring a bit of Japan to a bustling hotel and casino in the middle of China.
