Fregate Island Private

A private island paradise with a conservation focus
VERIFIED LUXURY

Part safari, part secluded paradise, Seychelles’ Fregate Island Private is a nature lover’s dream. From saving sea turtles and rare birds to eliminating invasive plant species, conservation efforts abound on this unique outcrop.

Located four degrees south of the equator, the island is delightfully isolated, providing the perfect level of seclusion for its colorful inhabitants — you’re more likely to come across a giant Aldabra tortoise than another hotel guest.

Natural delights aren’t limited to encounters with local inhabitants, though. Seven scenic beaches, exotic reefs and gorgeous granite formations offer plenty of unforgettable photo opportunities. For those who need their creature comforts, the spectacular Rock Spa provides prime pampering and complimentary private dining.

But even with the meals and massages, the highlight here might just be soaking up a stellar sunset from your private infinity pool — this is paradise after all.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Perched high in the hills, Rock Spa is a serene, open-air retreat with its own gorgeous water garden for good measure. Focusing on the healing power of local plants, treatments might include a lemon and cinnamon immune-boosting scrub, a hydrating coconut and avocado body mask or a soothing scalp massage with hibiscus and holy basil.
  • Seven beautiful beaches provide plenty of opportunities for sun worshipping. Enjoy a stretch of sand all to yourself by simply flipping the “beach occupied” sign at the entrance to the clifftop path.
  • Commune with nature during a guided hike with Fregate Island Private’s resident conservationists. Glimpse at more than 100 species of birds, a group of geckos and some of the 3,000 giant Aldabra tortoises that inhabit the island. You might even see Hawksbill turtles come ashore to lay eggs in broad daylight.
  • Adventure seekers can take advantage of the resort’s water sports offerings, which include a dive center, four boats, surfing and kayaking gear.
  • About 80 percent of the produce used at the Seychelles hotel is organically grown on the island. Look out for patches of pineapple, eggplant and several types of basil that add extra fresh flavor to the cuisine.
