J.K. Place Roma

Rome's stylish and bold boutique hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY
Housed in Rome’s former school of architecture, J.K. Place Roma is a rare breed of boutique hotel that functions as a triple threat: it has a stellar location, an abundance of style and a staff that exudes warm hospitality. Leave it to the Italians to create a place that feels both exclusive and welcoming at the same time.

On a quiet street off Rome’s busy Via del Corso, it looks more like a tucked-away townhouse than a buzzy little luxury hotel close to the Eternal City’s beautiful piazzas, world-famous museums, cafés and boutiques. The entrance opens up to a large, languorous living room and library available only to guests. Once inside, you’ll notice vibrant jewel tones dueling with luxe neutrals, and glam midcentury modern furniture is mixed with traditional Roman touches like ornate moldings and gilded accents.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Well-known Italian interior designer Michele Bonan juxtaposed reproductions of ancient marble sculptures next to modern and contemporary art in both the ground floor’s large, airy spaces and its intimate enclaves.
  • The 30 rooms, including seven suites, are roomy by Roman standards — they start at 215 square feet and top out at 540 square feet. They are mightily chic and finished in either soft, neutral tones of gray, ivory and gold, or in vibrant green and rich bordeaux.
  • J.K. Café is a hit with fashionable and in-the-know Romans. The dynamic jewel tones, posh furniture and all-around glamorous setting is almost at odds with the casual fare.
Things to Know
  • Once you venture outside of J.K. Place you’ll find yourself in the historic center of Rome, minutes from the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and a bevy of other must-see cultural sites.
  • But ancient treasures aren’t even close to all there is to see and do near the hotel. Via dei Condotti, where big-name Italian brands line the street, is temptingly close, as are myriad other avenues and piazzas lined with shops and boutiques.
The Rooms
  • In many of the rooms, four-poster rosewood beds are dressed in fine linens and show-stopping bathrooms are decked in striped gray and white Italian marble.
  • To really indulge, book Suite 12, a top-of-the-line J.K. Master Room with a large living space, marble fireplace, book-filled shelves, walk-in closet and an opulent marble bath.
The Restaurants
  • Menu items at J.K. Café include Rome’s specialties like fried artichokes and spaghetti carbonara; ingredients are sourced from local farmers and the popular burger is made with Fassone beef from Piedmont and topped with Tuscan bacon.
  • Brunch is a real treat with loads of house-made pastries, cakes and breads.
  • The adjacent bar, too, has an enchanting nonchalance with a lounge and small library (look for the impressive collection of Phaidon art books). A nightcap in the intimate bar is fine way to end an evening, as is a cocktail on the rooftop terrace bar overlooking the city.
