  • Between the eight golf courses, the pools, equestrian activities, jogging trails, boat rentals, croquet, tennis, walking tours and even a teen adventure program, there’s not much reason to leave this luxurious resort.

Kids will love the pool, as well as biking around the area. There are also family-friendly dining options and plenty of outdoor space for kids to run free.
  • You don’t want to miss the daily afternoon tea that takes place in The Carolina’s lobby. Choose from various teas and coffee — you can also a cold, sweetened tea, which is a staple in North Carolina. Enjoy cookies and other sweet treats and mingle with other guests.

Things to Know
  • When you’re making your reservation, be sure to let the reservationist know that you want to stay at The Carolina, as there are other options at Pinehurst to stay including The Holly Inn, The Manor as well as villas and condos on the property.
  • Keep in mind that you’ll want to rent a car to take you from the airport to the hotel — alternatively; the hotel offers shuttle transportation for a fee. This is definitely the way to go if you’re planning on spending most of your time at the resort.
  • It gets hot in Pinehurst, especially during the middle of summer, so you’ll want to cool off at the hotel’s large pool, complete with a kid’s pool, snack bar, pool toys and comfortable lounge chairs.
  • With eight golf courses, golf is a huge draw to visiting Pinehurst. Be sure to make your tee time in advance so you can get on the courses early.
The Rooms
  • The guest rooms at The Carolina Hotel at Pinehurst Resort are traditional and spacious, with neutral hues throughout, including brown, beige, cream, blue and red, along with dark wooden furnishings and a work desk.
  • You’ll find the closets are on the smaller side, but remember that the hotel was built in 1901 — a time when closets were always small.
  • The bathrooms are also on the small side, but you’ll find a tub/shower combination, a smaller sink and black and white tiled floors.

The Restaurants
  • The Carolina Dining Room, first opened in 1901, makes you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time.
  • The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the indulgent breakfast buffet of made-to-order omelets, fresh fruit and Southern favorites is not to be missed before a round of golf on one of the resort’s eight pristine golf courses.
  • For dinner, executive chef Thierry Debailleul carves hand-selected, aged beef with a signature dry rub for steaks and chops. The decadent cuisine also includes options like the foie gras terrine and Maine lobster salad, pork tenderloin with crispy pancetta and lamb Porterhouse with house lamb sausage.
  • And for dessert, you can order a Pinehurst brownie sundae topped with three kinds of ice cream and hot fudge, caramel sauce and candied pecans. The Carolina Dining Room also includes seasonal dishes using fresh produce from local farmers.
  • With eight pristine golf courses in Pinehurst, it’s only natural that The Carolina Hotel at Pinehurst Resort have a bar for a post-course cocktail, The Ryder Cup Lounge.
