VERIFIED LUXURY
The Modern Honolulu by Diamond Resorts lives up to its name: it’s modern without being trendy, and it’s hip without being stuffy. This sleek hotel is perfect for the urban traveler who tends to mix business with pleasure, or a getaway for couples or friends aiming to be near shopping or relaxing beach experiences.

The stylish guest rooms and suites are outfitted with modern amenities including complimentary Wi-Fi and Keurig coffee makers.

The über-cool lobby bar, The Study, is located behind a rotating bookcase in the hotel lobby and boasts oversized sofas, handcrafted libations and nightly live music. It’s an urban destination resort hotel just outside of bustling Waikiki.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The design style of The Modern Honolulu is sleek and stylish from the lobby to the penthouse thanks to architects George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg of Yabu Pushelberg.
  • Enjoy a full range of treatments at Lather Spa inspired by Hawaii’s natural bounty. Here, notes of coconut, lemongrass, passion fruit and vanilla scent the air.
  • There’s even an adults-only pool — really, a private beach with more than 100 tons of imported golden sand surrounding a shallow infinity-edge lagoon — with a bar overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
  • The hotel also houses Addiction, one of Hawaii's hottest nightclubs.
  • The Modern Honolulu offers complimentary waterfront yoga for guests at the sunset pool every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m.
Things to Know
  • The contemporary styling is found in the details, from the Herbie Fletcher surfboard installation behind the reception desk to the indigenous autograph trees and ferns that surround the Sunrise Pool on the deck.
  • The Study, the bar located in The Modern Honolulu’s lobby, boasts an ultramodern twist, with a rotating bookcase opening to a swanky lounge behind it.
  • Peak season for travelers to Oahu and the hotel are summer and winter, and room rates will reflect the demand.
The Rooms
  • The luxurious guest rooms range in size from 340 square feet for partial ocean view rooms with European terraces to spacious 665-square-foot suites that boast separate living rooms, two private bedrooms and an oversized terrace that opens to vistas of the ocean and harbor.
  • These rooms are adorned in natural tones and rich woods with pops of color in the form of a beautiful pareo (sarong) and ukulele that hang on the walls like functional art pieces.
  • In every room you will find custom beds, custom-woven leather and teak desk chairs imported from Indonesia, and cast terrazzo sink basins with extra large countertops and glass-enclosed showers in the bathrooms.
  • The 1,500-square-foot penthouse, though, is the hotel’s signature unit, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean from its expansive wraparound landscaped terrace.
The Restaurants
  • The Grove offers al fresco dining all day long, so that you can enjoy your morning Kona coffee, a casual lunch or dinner complete with ocean views.
  • The Study in the lobby boasts small plates and an impressive wine list, with a lively happy hour and handcrafted cocktails named after classic novels (think vodka-based Huckle Berry Fin or piña colada-inspired West Thai Story).
