- Considering the 1905 Stanford White-designed building was once home to America’s first theatrical group, The Lambs, it makes perfect sense that The Chatwal Hotel would be in the heart of New York’s Theater District.
- Just a five-minute walk from Times Square, the luxury hotel offers easy access to famous Broadway theaters and legendary shopping on Fifth Avenue.
- You can walk to Central Park in less than 20 minutes, be at Rockefeller Center for some wintertime ice skating in about 10 minutes and make it to the Hudson River Greenway for a scenic jog in 20 minutes.
- On the lower level, you’ll find its intimate Red Door Spa alongside the fitness center and pool — all appropriately sized for the 76-room hotel.
- The spa boasts three treatment rooms, and rather than having to share a locker room with other spa-goers, guests have personal changing suites complete with steam showers.
Things to Know
- The Chatwal Hotel is a great place to visit no matter what time of year it is. But although summer is beautiful in New York, it can get rather hot — especially with all the concrete.
- Spring is a lovely time to check in to The Chatwal. The weather in the city is comfortable, the trees in Central Park are blooming and everyone is starting to come out and enjoy the sun.
- Of course, there’s really something magical about the winter holidays in New York City. Everyone is bundled up, the ice-skating rinks are full, hot chocolate is flowing — it’s very festive.
- Considering The Chatwal is located within the Theater District, there’s no better time to catch a Broadway show.
The Rooms
- Beautifully appointed by acclaimed architect and interior designer Thierry Despont, all of the rooms at The Chatwal Hotel reflect a 1930s Empire Art Deco style.
- Some rooms boast spacious outdoor terraces — something you don’t find too often in New York City.
- Each guest room includes complimentary wireless Internet, a 42-inch flat-screen HDTV, a Blu-ray player and a Tivoli retro iPod docking station.
- Even the bathrooms flaunt state-of-the-art technology; there’s a TOTO toilet with heated seat, massage and bidet functionality, and a TV in the mirror.
- A mini-bar that takes up an entire floor-to-ceiling portion of the closet is stocked with everything from delicious snacks (think honey-mustard pretzels and plenty of chocolate) to sizeable bottles of premium liquor to books such as The Great Gatsby and even a bespoke cocktail set if you prefer to mix your own libation.
The Restaurants
- Located just off the lobby, The Lambs Club serves contemporary American cuisine from Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.
- The swanky eatery flaunts red leather banquettes, keeping in line with the Empire Art Deco design seen throughout the hotel, and attracts both hotel guests and New Yorkers for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
- At breakfast, you can enjoy divine dishes such as the broccoli, cheddar and piquillo pepper omelet, which is perhaps one of the most delicious omelets we’ve tasted, and the stuffed French toast, which one diner said was the best he’s ever had.
- Lunch brings a few more substantial options such as The Lambs Club sirloin burger and a lamb gyro, while dinner offers a more expansive menu with appetizers, small plates and entrees.
- Weekend brunch includes a mix of both the amazing breakfast options (yes, the omelet and French toast are on the menu) and savory lunch dishes such as an ahi tuna Niçoise salad. On Sundays, you can enjoy the jazz brunch, during which a live band entertains the dining room.
