Bardessono Hotel and Spa

Sustainable luxury in the heart of Napa
VERIFIED LUXURY
Napa Valley’s Bardessono Hotel and Spa, located in the center of downtown Yountville, is the modern but charming place of your wine country dreams. Upon arrival, a valet will whisk your car away and you’ll notice the air is filled with the fragrance of flourishing olive trees and blooming rosemary.

Once inside the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended escape, spot the living wall covered with air plants and the natural elements (stone, wood) before you’re offered a glass of wine (sparkling or local sauvignon blanc, perhaps?). Although the sleek counter says it’s clearly a hotel lobby, the warm welcome and nurturing atmosphere bring to mind a sanctuary-like retreat.

The five-acre property is dotted with low two-story wood-and-steel buildings. Water features and artwork, outdoor sculptures and indoor contemporary pieces are all featured prominently throughout the space.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • One of only seven LEED Platinum certified hotels in the U.S., Bardessono is known for its luxurious but green and sustainable experience. Eco developers built the hotel using 100,000 square feet of salvaged wood; a large contingent of glass windows and walls reduces the daytime requirement for electrical lighting; and the roofs are covered in solar panels.
  • The 62 rooms at the Yountville hotel are more like personal havens — each one is actually a suite. All of the accommodations have some sort of outdoor living area, be it a balcony or enclosed courtyard.
  • With just four treatment rooms, The Spa at Bardessono is intimate yet efficient and cozy, with a seasonally inspired menu of services. For example, in the spring, the facials, body wraps and massages are geared toward purification and renewal.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Lucy Restaurant and Bar is helmed by chef Jim Leiken and wine director Anani Lawson. Leiken serves up a sensational farm-to-table menu with delectable fare, like hand-rolled gnocchi coated in kale pesto made with fresh kale just picked from the resort’s onsite edible garden.
  • Get your hands dirty with the resort's newest sustainability initiative: the Guest Garden. Simply opt out of daily housekeeping to plant your own herb in Bardessono's budding plot — the same garden that provides onsite Lucy Restaurant with fresh herbs and produce.
Things to Know
  • The majority of people who stay at the hotel prefer to take advantage of the in-room spa option — so much so that the spa offers a variety of treatments that are only available in guest suites. Reservations are recommended: The spa is beloved by both locals and returning guests, so don’t wait to book your treatment.
  • Bardessono is dog-friendly, so you don’t have to leave your four-legged friend at home. If you happen to stay on the first Tuesday of the month, you and your pooch will be invited to the DogBar, a happy hour event that involves wine for you and dog treats for the pup.
  • The location of the Napa hotel is ideal; it’s within a five-minute walk of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and adjoining bakery and Richard Reddington’s pizzeria, Redd Wood.
  • If you want to venture further out into the valley, a fleet of Lexus vehicles is available in two- to four-hour time blocks.
  • Did one of the striking works of art lining the resort's walls catch your eye? Each of the pieces in the collection (curated by San Francisco-based gallery Andrea Schwartz) is available for purchase.
The Rooms
  • The property offers smart suites, with window coverings that open and close by sensor and gas fireplaces that turn on with a hidden button.
  • The walls are painted a rich buttery pale yellow that brings to mind a superb glass of chardonnay, and the artwork, iron wall hangings and oversized pictures of nearby vineyards decorate them.
  • The plush beds are outfitted with all-white, 100 percent Egyptian cotton Fili D’oro linens.
  • The bath products are by Ren and reside in the huge bathrooms, which double as a private spa.
The Restaurants
  • Lucy’s menu celebrates Napa's farm-fresh fare with plates like Dungeness crab and citrus salad with papaya, tangerine and pickled onions or a juicy duo of pork served with slow-roasted shoulder apricots and white cheddar grits.
  • Lawson’s wine list offers local favorites like Truchard Pinot Noir as well as interesting international pours, such as the Olivares Rosé from the Jumilla region of Spain.
  • There’s an expansive outdoor dining area with water and fire features that’s ideal for enjoying snacks alfresco. A large living-room-like bar has plenty of seating options, from snug armchairs to low couches to communal tables with bar seats.
  • Don't skip breakfast at Lucy, where globally inspired dishes pack a flavorful punch. Fuel up on Sonoma duck confit hash topped with a bright sunny side-up duck egg or a sweet guava and cream cheese-stuffed French toast.
