Four Seasons Hotel Moscow

A historic spot overlooking Red Square
VERIFIED LUXURY

Not many Russian hotels can boast Kremlin views, but at Four Seasons Hotel Moscow, you can sip your morning coffee from a private terrace overlooking the Red Square icon.

The property’s location is special — steps from the famed plaza, its historic palace and the whimsical swirled domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral — but it’s the building’s history that makes it unique. Legend has it that Hotel Moskva (the previous occupant of the Four Seasons' location and its design inspiration) was actually built from two different blueprints. Both were accidentally approved by Joseph Stalin, and the architect was too afraid to point out the infamous dictator’s mistake.

Despite its nefarious history, the rebuilt hotel is still as luxurious as ever, boasting a chic cocktail bar, an Italian restaurant, a stellar spa and an enviable address. Some of the city’s best eateries, theaters and shopping are on your doorstop. The area is usually packed with musicians, lights and enjoyment, but inside the hotel, it is always calm, quiet and comfortable.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Four Seasons Hotel Moscow has an unbeatable address, less than a two-minute walk from Red Square and the Kremlin. Book a room with a balcony to make the most of the views.
  • The elegant interiors give off the vibe of a regal mansion with high ceilings, glittering chandeliers and fresh floral displays. Be on the lookout for local design touches, like a subtle silver birch motif and artworks that depict scenes from Russian fairy tales.
  • Don’t miss a night out at the nearby Bolshoi Theatre, a 160-year-old arts icon and host of regular renowned ballet and opera performances. Simply ask the concierge to help you snag a seat, even if your show of choice is already sold out.
  • The 28,000-square-foot Amnis Spa is one of the largest in Moscow, offering treatments ranging from Russian bathing rituals to caviar-enhanced facials. Don’t miss a night swim in the heated indoor pool — look up to see the stars twinkle through an immense glass ceiling.
  • As might be expected of a luxury hotel in Russia’s capital, Four Seasons Hotel Moscow’s Moskovsky Bar crafts its own version of a Moscow Mule. The classic vodka cocktail is sweetened with honey and boosted with a secret local ingredient you’ll have to try to coax out of your bartender.

Things to Know

  • It’s usually easy to hail a cab in the capital, but you won’t want to miss a ride on the beautiful Moscow metro. The closest station is right outside the hotel.

The Rooms

  • Generously sized accommodations start at 430 square feet, topping out at a palatial 4,101 square feet in the Pozharsky Royal Suite.
  • The rooms’ interiors sport the same style as the corridors: soft and comfortable ivory, beige and golden hues combined with deep dark shades of brown. Pops of color come from regal plum and navy accents.
  • If you want a nice panoramic view, choose the right room. Try a Grand Premiere Room or Deluxe Suite.
  • In each room, you will find a traditional Russian Matryoshka nesting doll. Lay it down on the bed to signal to the housekeeping staff that you would like your sheets changed.
