The 150-plus-year-old Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo has quite the pedigree. It’s hosted everyone from the Rockefellers to Rothschilds — as well as Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace’s wedding dinner.

In 2014, the palace (which billionaire François Blanc initially envisioned in 1864 as “a hotel that surpasses everything that has been created until now”) embarked on a €600 million, four-year renovation led by French architect Richard Martinet (also behind The Peninsula Paris).

The modernized hotel emerged with an open-air, tree-lined courtyard of haute joailleries (like Graff and Harry Winston), two royal-themed rooftop villas (Jacuzzi tubs included), a second Alain Ducasse eatery and a star-stylist-branded salon that offers private yacht service — a first for the principality.

Monaco-based architect Gabriel Viora assisted Martinet with Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo’s contemporary take on the classic 1909 belle époque façade, meant to blend seamlessly into Casino Square’s urban landscape.
The historic hotel shrunk its capacity — while expanding suite size — to 107 rooms, with balconies and terraces showing off panoramic views over two of the principality’s most picturesque sites: Prince's Palace and the legendary Monte-Carlo Casino.
Hôtel de Paris is home to the world’s largest hotel wine cellar, stocked with more than 350,000 bottles — half of which hail from Bordeaux. Set up a private tasting with the master sommelier who will guide you through a selection of exquisite sips.
The two-story Princess Grace Suite (spanning the seventh and eighth floors) pays tribute to the legendary royal through artwork and books from her personal library, as well as bouquets of her favorite blush pink roses.
Stylist to the stars Rossano Ferretti launched his first Hairspa salon on the Riviera inside this storied Monaco hotel, with views overlooking the harbor.

Things to Know

When the rooftop indoor-outdoor wellness space features a pool and loungers, steam and sauna facilities and a fitness center.
Reserve rooms during Monaco’s Formula 1 Grand Prix well in advance; the luxury hotel sits on a prime position along the race track with suites serving as front-row seats to the show.
Guests have complimentary access to the neighboring Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo. The 75,000-square-foot spa spans four levels and features amenities like a covered saltwater pool, hammam and Jacuzzi overlooking the Prince’s Palace.

The Rooms

The Monte Carlo hotel’s sun-drenched rooms are tastefully decorated with sophisticated Murano glass chandeliers, gold-streaked antique mirrors and Italian Calacatta-marble-lined bathrooms stocked with Guerlain amenities.
The two-bedroom Princess Grace Suite spans almost 10,000 square feet, including an ocean-facing terrace that measures nearly half that size. Expect mother-of-pearl inlays, 180-degree seaside views and spa-like features, such as a granite-carved hot tub.
The new, 5,600-square-foot Prince Rainier III Suite overlooks the Place du Casino and offers its own infinity pool with wave system.
Renovated suites (which make up 60 percent of the room count) are more spacious and modern, offering a classically French feel (think brass bar carts, luxe bronze-colored linens and Louis XVI-style furniture) without being stuffy.
Up to 10 people can gather around English roulette and blackjack tables in the new, 1,200-square-foot Monte-Carlo Suite, reserved for the casino’s top players.

The Restaurants

A well-heeled crowd gathers for pre-dinner cocktails (some of Monaco’s best) at the burgundy-silk-lined jazz club Le Bar Américain, whose new terrace looks out at the famous Monte-Carlo Casino.
Alain Ducasse’s renowned Le Louis XV may have received a sprucing up, but the gilded space still exudes Old World glamor — and a dress code. Put on your formalwear and swing by for lunch on the weekend or indulge in the four-course gourmet dinner menu sprinkled with regal, regionally inspired dishes.
Pierre-Yves Rochon designed the nautical-inspired Ô Mer —Ducasse’s second eatery to enter the principality — overlooking the lush gardens in the new ground-floor Rotonde wing.
