Fisher Island Club Hotel & Resort

A private island oasis near Miami
VERIFIED LUXURY

Commemorating 100 years of history, Fisher Island Club Hotel & Resort, located on a man-made island off the tip of Miami Beach, has withstood the test of time.

The secret is in Fisher Island Club’s mix of exclusivity, privacy and world-class amenities. With the recent completion of a multi-million interior renovation, the 1920s Vanderbilt Mansion stands as the landmark centerpiece of the grand estate. It formerly served as the winter home of William K. Vanderbilt.

Elsewhere on the luxury property, there’s 15 well-appointed suites, a private beach, a 24,000-square-foot spa, a manicured golf course, 18 tennis courts and an abundance of fine dining options. As you step onto the 216-acre members-only island, you’ll discover a timeless paradise that seamlessly marries modern style and Old World charm.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Upon arrival, the vista of the Vanderbilt Mansion is breathtaking. World-renowned designer Adriana Hoyos crafted a refreshing, modern design while preserving its 1920s glamour.
  • Come to frolic on the private beach, whose white, soft sand was brought in from the Bahamas.
  • Select from 15 European-styled suites across the pristine property. Though each room varies in size, all accommodations exude the same serenity with hints of cool blue and extraordinary style.
  • For golfers — beginners and professional — there is a P.B. Dye-designed, nine-hole championship course, stretching 3,069 yards long, as well as a driving range and clubhouse.
  • Keep an eye out for wildlife throughout the island. The aviary is home to more than a dozen exotic birds. Spot manatees off shore and colorful peacocks on land.

Things to Know

  • About 650 families, including celebrities and mega stars, have homes on Fisher Island. Fewer than 20 percent of residents live on this secret haven year-round.
  • Carl Fisher traded seven acres of Fisher Island to William K. Vanderbilt II in 1926 in exchange for a yacht named Eagle. Now, the island is ranked as one of the most expensive zip codes in the United States.
  • The exclusive community spans 216 acres and is a world within itself, with its own post office, island market, private bank, fire department and observatory (visit the latter to do some star gazing).
  • Making your way onto Fisher Island is simple. By car, take a complimentary, seven-minute ferry ride, which arrives to the island every 15 minutes. By boat, there are two deep-water, surge-proof marinas with more than 100 slips.

The Rooms

  • Enjoy serenity from a variety of carefully designed cottages, villas and suites, all characterized by 1920s charm and modern art deco touches.
  • Accommodations include four Historic Cottages, each with its own in-ground Jacuzzi and private walled courtyard: a three-bedroom, two two-bedroom and one studio bedroom option. Also choose from six Courtyard Villas and a Guest House with five one-bedroom junior suites.
  • The crisp Italian Frette linens make for a dreamy night’s sleep; select your favorite pillow type from a menu to ensure slumber.
  • The largest of the cottages, the 2,000-square-foot Rosemary’s Cottage (named for the Vanderbilts’ daughter) houses three bedrooms, a spacious living area and a European-style kitchenette for entertaining.
  • Each accommodation comes with a champagne welcome and a golf cart, the preferred method of transport on the island.

The Restaurants

  • There are eight dining options throughout the resort to satisfy any craving, including a piano bar, a casual trattoria and a grab-and-go gourmet market.
  • The Garwood Lounge, in the heart of the historic Vanderbilt Mansion, is a guest favorite providing an intimate setting with a piano bar and an oak-paneled dining room. On the menu: prime steaks, grass-fed burgers and fresh seafood. The wooden ceiling of the lounge dates back to the 19th century, created by materials taken from Napoleon Bonaparte’s mansion in France.
  • At Beach Club, catch magnificent seaside views while enjoying alfresco dining or a pre-dinner cocktail with a West Indies flair. The spot is friendly for all ages.
  • While on the links, golfers can fill up on fresh salads and sandwiches between rounds at Greenside, located on the club terrace of the golf clubhouse.
