MGM MACAU

An extravagant Macau escape
VERIFIED LUXURY
MGM MACAU is hard to miss. If you don’t spot MGM’s trademark gold lion out front, you’ll recognize the building’s exterior. The hotel’s glass façade looks like three alternating waves of gold, silver and copper — a fitting decorative touch, given its location along the South China Sea.

But the hotel’s best design feature is the Grande Praça, a beautiful 82-foot, floor-to-glass-ceiling structure that echoes Portugal’s town squares. At a towering 35 stories, the luxurious hotel features 600 rooms, the most lavish of which are its villas. The MGM makes for a stylish home base during a getaway to the action-packed island city.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • In a city that's perhaps best known for its local food — a unique blend of Cantonese and Portuguese styles — MGM's nine bars and restaurants offer up a range of different cuisines to suit any palate.
  • Stunning from the outside, the hotel is also a vision in the inside, particularly in its fantastical lobby. Dubbed the Grand Praca, the lobby features European-style facades and multiple terraces meant to evoke Portugal, all underneath a skylight dome.
  • The MGM may be primarily a casino resort, but it also plays host to art exhibitions, an ever-changing installation in the Grande Praça and plenty of festivals and celebrations, from comedy shows to Oktoberfest.
  • Tria spa is an urban oasis and the perfect place to get some peace and quiet away from the gaming floor featuring a hammam, vitality pool and warming laconium with tiled-loungers, chairs and footbaths in addition to the exquisite treatment menu, salon services and wellness facility.
  • Whether you’re enjoying a dip in the infinity pool or taking in the 180-degree view of the South China Sea from the Jacuzzi, poolside is the perfect place to chill out. If that wasn’t enough, sip on tropical drinks and cocktails or even enjoy a poolside spa treatment.
Things to Know
  • Regular visitors to the region might consider joining the Golden Lion Club. Membership grants you the most exclusive perks, such as access to the VIP Supreme Lounge, a helicopter transfer from the airport and personalized room amenities, to name a few.
  • You may be happy enough to relax in your extravagant room, but the hotel has the added advantage of being directly adjacent to One Central, one of the city's biggest shopping malls, and with historical landmarks and attractions close by.
  • Two different afternoon tea sets are available for the discerning traveler. Enjoy a more fine dining approach at North by Square Eight while a more casual menu is offered at South by Square Eight, both feature a two-course menu and choice of tea or coffee.
The Rooms
  • All the of the MGM’s 600 rooms offer a contemporary style with artistic flair, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with a panoramic view of either the skyline or the ocean.
  • Each room features amenities such as walk-in rain showers, Internet and free access to the Macau hotel's gym and swimming pool.
  • Also available are a variety of suites and studio rooms, all of which are opulently designed, with plenty of gold accents, richly patterned floors and heavy velvet curtains and couches.
  • The one- or two-bedroom villas boast spectacular ocean vistas, a whopping 2,368 to 4,090 square feet, exclusive access via the hotel's VIP lobby, and — best of all — a personal entertainment room with full karaoke facilities.
The Restaurants
  • Rossio specializes in international dishes and buffet brunches and dinners, but also features dishes from Malaysia, Portugal and Italy.
  • Dine at Square Eight for authentic Asian favorites; North by Square Eight features North and Central Chinese dishes like braised pork with red preserved bean curd, while South by Square Eight offers Cantonese and classic dishes from Southeast China.
  • Imperial Court offers Cantonese classics served in the most opulent of settings. For a truly fine dining experience, opt for Chef Chow Chung’s tasting menu complete with both wine and tea pairings.
  • You also can visit the Pastry Bar or Grande Praça Café to pick up goodies for gifting or a light snack, as well as the house-made ice cream counter at Scoops.
  • French fine-dining spot Aux Beaux Arts stands out with not-to-be-missed dishes such as the French Dover sole and the steamed mussels marinière.
