Europe’s first “grand hotel,” Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star The Langham, London opened in 1865. The Rooms
- Many of the 10-story hotel’s guest rooms offer breathtaking views of the London skyline, while a minority look onto inner courtyard, perfect for travelers who prefer a quieter outlook.
- All guests benefit from complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, plus handy touches such as U.S. and European power sockets and a discreet “do not disturb” system using buttons and lights.
- The hotel is home to London’s largest accommodation, the spacious 4,844-square-foot Sterling Suite. Inspired by the sterling heritage of English pageantry, the luxe unit includes private elevator access, three main bedrooms, en suite bathrooms, standalone bathtubs and dressing areas.
- The sophisticated space also consists of custom-made furniture with gold- and silver-leaf hand-painted finishes, gorgeous marble and antique mirror work.
The Restaurants
- Overseen by Albert and Michel Roux Jr., and run by head chef Chris King, Roux at the Landau serves excellent cuisine prepared with French technique and English flavors.
- The multi-course tasting menu features dishes such as squab supreme with buttermilk dressing and spit-roasted lamb saddle with homemade merguez (both also available a la carte). Desserts, too, are top-notch.
- The English breakfast at Roux at the Landau is not to be missed. Start with an outstanding basket of freshly baked croissants and apple turnovers before diving into eggs, artisanal bacon, sausage and blood pudding, plus a Portobello mushroom and grilled tomato.
- On Friday and Saturday evenings, the Palm Court is transformed into a decadent jazz lounge where you can enjoy complimentary champagne and canapés.
- Enjoy a modern take on the classic British pub at The Wigmore, where you'll find Martin Brudnizki Studio-designed interiors, cocktails from the Artesian team and a menu of elevated pub fare from Michel Roux Jr., like masala-spiced Scotch eggs; toasted quinoa, date and pumpkin tagine; and a cheeseburger topped with grilled ox tongue.
