Weekapaug Inn

Classic coastal charm in New England
VERIFIED LUXURY
The history of Weekapaug Inn is what gives this scenic spot situated on Quonochontaug Pond its charm. The story of this Rhode Island luxury hotel dates back to 1899, when Frederick and Phebe Buffum opened the small inn for the beach community. After the original building was damaged in the hurricane of 1938, the Buffums rebuilt their inn higher up on the Quonochontaug Pond, where they could help protect the surrounding area and the beach, resulting in a private enclave that still today retains its beauty and coastal charm.

Unlike its grandiose sister property the Ocean House, located just a few short miles down the road, Weekapaug Inn is slightly more rustic, but retains the same Old World allure with its laidback ambiance. Ornate artwork and antiques adorn the hallways, bocce and shuffleboard courts line the lawn, and a sky full of stars bids all guests a good evening.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Less than two hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from Manhattan, Weekapaug Inn will be as relaxing or engaging as you want it to be. If you’re here for a romantic weekend, enjoy the privacy that Weekapaug provides.

  • If you’re feeling lazy, opt for a game of shuffleboard or bocce on the inn’s back lawn, laze on the private beach with a beach butler at your service, sun yourself on the deck while reading one of the hotel’s loaner iPads or simply soak in the saline pool.
  • In case you get hungry during the day or want a late-night snack, head over to the guest pantry, where you can forage for bites and beverages 24/7.
Things to Know
  • If you’re looking to watch the big game or rent a movie for a night in, you’ll have to schedule that in advance. In an effort to help you enjoy the true meaning of “vacation,” televisions are only placed in rooms upon guest request.
  • The Restaurant is open to the public, so reservations are recommended during high travel seasons.
  • During the summer, grab the family and partake in a traditional clambake on the Inn’s back lawn every Thursday or a pig roast every Monday.
The Rooms
  • All 31 guest rooms (27 rooms and four Signature Suites) are uniquely designed to bring out the history of Weekapaug Inn and the colonial appeal of New England.
  • From lobster-claw-adorned bedspreads to seashell and seahorse decorations, the room themes were carefully crafted with history and tradition in mind.
  • But luxury isn’t left out: Frette bedding; Bose sound systems; windows overlooking the pond, ocean, coves or village of Weekapaug; claw-foot tubs; bathrooms with heated marble floors; and rain showers are just a few of the amenities you’ll enjoy in the guest rooms.
The Restaurants
  • The main dining room — The Restaurant — offers a modern interpretation of New England coastal cuisine, including bouillabaisse with Narragansett seasonal seafood, chilled Jonah crab, Crescent Farms duckling and Misty Knolls chicken, to name a few.
  • Executive chef Devin Bozkaya and his team prepare the menus seasonally, so you’ll always find fresh locally raised and harvested meat and seafood, and straight-from-the-farm vegetables and fruits among the offerings.
  • The Brasserie debuted in February 2019, offering a raw bar, fresh seafood like Rhode Island lobster and meaty staples like a rib-eye steak with bordelaise.

  • From Memorial Day to Labor Day, dine in the Inn’s SeaRoom for lunch or dinner with its windows overlooking Quonochontaug Pond and the Atlantic Ocean. The SeaRoom menu features casual fare, including lobster rolls, wraps, sliders and salads.
