The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun

Cancun's chic beachside escape
VERIFIED LUXURY
Set on Mexico’s iconic Caribbean coast on the Yucatán Peninsula, where the midnight blue color of the water seems dreamt up by Crayola, The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun is luxury down to the core.

You'll have a difficult time peeling yourself from the beach, whether you spend the day swimming among the fishes or swaying in a hammock inside one of the hotel's private casitas while the "Coconut Boy" mixes you a refreshing cocktail using local coconuts.

But the relaxing resort offers so much more that families and sophisticated couples alike would feel comfortable calling this resort home for a spell.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • It’s all about casual elegance at this beachside resort (think dirty martinis and flip-flops), which is decked out in pink blush and black marble, accent rugs and tasteful touches of classic French art and antiques.
  • Massive windows and terraces give way to views overlooking the pool deck, crystalline sea and sugary, nearly quarter-mile stretch of beach.
  • The Cancun hotel's pool deck overlooks the Caribbean Sea, giving sun worshippers the best of both worlds. There are two outdoor pools, as well as a whirlpool.
  • The intimate Ritz-Carlton Spa, Cancun is a 5,500-square-foot hideaway washed in creams and whites. In addition to eight treatment rooms, there are co-ed water areas with hydrotherapy tubs and showers.
  • What sets the dining at this resort apart is its interactive offerings. The Culinary Center is an oceanfront exhibition kitchen, where you can converse with the chef as he prepares a bespoke menu complete with wine pairings.
Things to Know
  • The Lobby Lounge is the ideal congregating spot, which serves evening cocktails and snacks, including sushi from its own sushi and ceviche bar.
  • Beach villas are available for reservation, where guests can order snacks and cocktails while kicking back in a hammock or lounge chair.
  • Little ones will love Ritz Kids, a children's program focused on education. The resort has teamed up with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society to teach children about the environment, sustainability and culture of the region.
  • You won't have to travel far when hunger strikes. There are seven restaurants at the resort to satiate almost any craving.
The Rooms
  • The 363 guest rooms and 51 suites all come with private balconies or terraces overlooking the water.
  • Accommodations start at 435 square feet and feature bathrooms with dual marble vanities.
  • The newly renovated rooms exude a more modern look with a blue-and-gray palette in mind.
  • For the traveler who likes to indulge in the crème de la crème, look into the three-bedroom Cobalt Residential Suite, which opened in 2012 and is the only suite with a personal infinity pool and a private garden that opens directly onto the beach.
The Restaurants
  • For fine dining, you'll want to book a reservation at Fantino. This Mediterranean restaurant takes travelers back to Old World elegance with opulent chandeliers hanging from muraled ceilings, complemented by live piano music and white tablecloth tradition. A must on the menu is the Maine lobster lasagna with fresh bean ragout and brandy cream.
  • The Club Grill serves elevated Continental cuisine with a side of jazz. This contemporary venue features a jazz trio and club singer.
  • For romantic dining, the resort offers on-the-beach Casitas, whose cabanas are converted into secluded dining rooms that are mere steps from the ocean.
  • Casual dining options include El Café Mexicano, The Lobby Lounge and the poolside Caribe Bar & Grill, while the scenic Sushi & Ceviche Bar rounds out the offerings with terrace seating and water views.
