Elbow Beach Bermuda

A revival of classic Bermudian style
VERIFIED LUXURY
There’s a renaissance underway on the pink sands of Bermuda, and Elbow Beach Bermuda finds itself right in the thick of the resurgence.

A long-respected hotel (the resort originally opened its doors in 1908) that operated under the guidance of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group since 2000, the 98-room property elected to reopen as an independent resort in early 2014.

And with that new outlook has come new life to the property. Sure, team members still burst with energy, but now their resort as a whole has a vibrancy to match.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Elbow Beach Bermuda’s cottage colony is a 50-acre spread that starts at a main lobby atop a hill and gradually slopes down to the South Shore waves. In between those stops you’ll find lush lawns, hibiscus shrubs and clusters of rooms, suites and cottages.
  • The five-suite spa melds Asian and Bermudian techniques to the point of utter blissfulness, with stunning ocean views to boot.
  • If your idea of fun in the sun involves working up a sweat, then head to the Elbow Beach Tennis Facility. The competitive set will appreciate that the facility regularly organizes impromptu round-robin tournaments for hotel guests.
  • As a guest of the luxurious Bermuda hotel, you’ll enjoy access to a half-mile of private Pink Sand Beach. The attentive staff is happy to set up a lounge chair and umbrella, or equip you with snorkel and kayak gear for an active day in the surf.
Things to Know
  • Some of the resort’s eateries, like Mickey’s Bar & Bistro, are open seasonally to accommodate the busier summer months. Mickey’s is open from April through October.
  • The weather is Bermuda is superb, but even the beach is not immune to rain. Wait out any storms in the cozy library, equipped with an HD TV, a large selection of reading material and an antique pool table.
The Rooms
  • You can call the Garden rooms your standard offerings if you like, but there’s little about the 480-square-foot units’ panoramic garden views and flat-screen TVs that should be considered basic.
  • The Oceanview rooms are a step up, in terms of their spectacular water vistas and added square footage.
  • The property’s premier lodgings are suites and cottages nearly big enough for a class reunion, but secluded enough for a honeymoon or couple’s getaway.
The Restaurants
  • The culinary team’s dedication to quality is ever apparent at the boutique hotel’s Café Lido, where the kitchen prepares Mediterranean fare that is so fresh, you’d think a fishmonger had just brought in the catch moments before you ordered.
  • Thankfully, a similar gusto is applied by the team in charge of the sushi at Sea Breeze. The yellowtail sashimi is highly recommended.
  • Sea Breeze caters to island indulgences and more, thanks to a roster of desserts and specialty drinks delivered in the most congenial setting possible.
  • The open-air terrace at Sea Breeze is the resort’s go-to spot for laughs and light bites.
  • Mickey's Beach Bistro literally sits on the soft pink sands where you can dine for lunch or dinner overlooking the glistening Atlantic.
