Just 20 minutes from Beijing Capital International Airport in the northeast portion of the city, East, Beijing offers a hip and contemporary place to hang your hat. The lobby is a sleek and sparse space with wooden benches, glowing Lucite desks, wooden-slatted walls and locally commissioned artwork, such as the installation of 30 stratified building materials by Ma Han.

Luckily, the public spaces aren’t the only areas given attention at the Beijing hotel. The guest rooms are also spacious and modern, with comfy beds, flat-screen televisions, Elemis bath products and business-friendly features such as outlets by the bed and desk, printing over the Wi-Fi network and an iPod Touch on the nightstand.

  • East, Beijing, which opened in September 2012, stands out from other hotels in the capital city because of its location in the northeast, contemporary style and business facilities.
  • Domain, situated on the second floor, offers a sunny and social spot to meet colleagues or work. It features a long communal table; private, cushioned seating areas; computer pods with printers; and an art/bookstore.
  • The Beast gym, which sits on the fourth floor, is also a standout feature at the Beijing hotel, presenting a range of professional equipment, a huge aerobics studio for weekly classes such as yoga and kickboxing, locker room shower suites and a 46-feet indoor pool with Jacuzzi.
  • The bar in the lobby, Xian, offers excellent cocktails and more than 150 whiskeys by the glass, as well as a free arcade and gaming area with foosball and billiards tables.
Things to Know
  • Service is on the casual side, with staff in slouchy cotton pants calling you by your first name, and room service arriving dissembled in plastic takeaway boxes inside a white paper bag.
  • Rooms are also spacious and modern, with handy business-friendly features such as universal outlets by the bed and desk, plug-and-play cables, an iPod Touch and printing over the Wi-Fi network.
  • The hotel is connected via doorway to a luxurious mall that houses high-end stores, a swanky cinema, an international supermarket and bookstore, lots of restaurants and a Food Republic open-dining atrium.

  • The guest rooms at East, Beijing are contemporary and clean-lined, featuring beige tones and a mix of textures.
  • Rooms feature light hardwood flooring throughout, with floor-to-ceiling windows spanning the width of the room and wrapping around the desk.
  • Bathrooms are marble-clad and all-white linens are used on the beds, creating a sleek and relaxing atmosphere.
  • Diaphanous white sheers cover the windows, with automatic Roman blinds for when nighttime falls.
  • If you want to work in your room instead of Domain, there’s desk ready with a white leather Eames-style rolling desk chair and universal outlets from a pullout panel to the side.
The Look
  • East, Beijing has a hip and contemporary design, leaning toward a wood-heavy, Scandinavian style.
  • The rounded shape of the hotel provides dimension to the lobby and guest-room corridors, where doors are smoothly integrated into the curving walls, each marked only by glowing vertical bars.
  • The lobby is an expanse of beige marble flooring, with a wall of windows looking onto the front drive, walls composed of vertical wooden slats and a row of simple wooden benches. A zigzagging staircase surrounded by metal bars leads up to Domain.
  • The property takes its design cues from the nearby 798 Art Zone, with pieces commissioned from local artists displayed throughout the hotel. Check out the elevator lobby murals adding colorful notes to each floor.
  • Don’t miss the stunning Water Is Dripping metal sculpture by Zheng Lu and the impressive lobby wall installation of 30 stratified layers of building materials by Ma Han.
