Cordis, Auckland

Quiet luxury in Auckland
VERIFIED LUXURY

Set high above the central part of the city, Cordis, Auckland offers much more than just impressive views of the skyline, harbor and domesticated volcanoes. Fully refurbished in 2017 when it became Langham Hospitality Group’s first Cordis-branded property in the Pacific region, it’s now a soothing yet sophisticated environment that welcomes everyone from Britain’s Prince Charles to locals craving a luxurious staycation.

While high tea in The Lobby Lounge under the huge chandelier is a cherished tradition for many, dinner in Eight restaurant is novel and fun, featuring a series of buffets where chefs cook your choice of cuisines on demand.

Children are well-catered for, their programs balanced by grown-up treatments and activities at the Zen-inducing Chuan Spa and 24-hour Health Club.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Cordis, Auckland’s Chuan Spa sets the tone for serenity, as you climb the stairs past water trickling through bamboo. Along with a range of treatments and massages, you can reset your qi in the tri-bathing experience: snail shower, ice bath and sauna.
  • The hotel aims to have as many local connections as possible, from the food to the artworks that line the walls to the items on sale in the boutique: get your manuka honey, possum merino socks and Whittaker’s chocolate here.
  • Sate every craving Eight restaurant, where chef Volker Marecek turns out an array of international cuisines including Indian, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, as well as a range of tempting desserts that includes a chocolate fountain (also available at breakfast).
  • The family-friendly Auckland hotel curates a slew of perks for tiny travelers, from a backpack welcome gift stocked with a coloring book to a hotel-wide scavenger hunt that rewards adventurers with ice cream at the end.
  • Soak up some sun by Cordis’ heated rooftop pool. During summer, take advantage of poolside service to enjoy refreshing sips and light bites.

Things to Know

  • The seafood station at Eight is the most popular, so it pays to arrive early to ensure the widest choice of locally sourced fish. Table service is available in The Lobby Lounge.
  • Cordis, Auckland is building a 16-floor tower extension that will bring the room count up to more than 660, making it the biggest hotel in New Zealand.
  • Most of central Auckland’s highlights are downhill and within walking distance, but when returning, you might prefer to use the hotel’s complimentary shuttle.

The Rooms

  • All 411 recently refurbished rooms feature Cordis signature Dream Beds with fine linens. Bathrooms are marble, the minifridge contains local beers and wines, and the décor is contemporary.
  • The 10th-floor Chairman’s Suite has hosted royalty — Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were recent guests — and is popular with visiting entertainers. With private dining, a spacious lounge and a marble bathroom featuring a sunken Jacuzzi, it is a sanctuary within the luxury hotel.
  • All suite guests have access to The Club Lounge, which provides daytime snacks with hot and cold drinks, and evening canapés with wine.

Nearby Attractions

  • A walk down Queen Street will take you past Auckland Art Gallery, with extensive collections that include local artists such as Colin McCahon, Frances Hodgkins and Grahame Sydney.
  • Visit the busy marina hub of Viaduct Harbour, where many restaurants, bars and the well-presented Maritime Museum are located.
  • Pretty Ponsonby — a heritage suburb with a main street lined with restaurants and independent shops — and proudly gritty K (Karangahape) Road are both within easy reach.
