Milwaukee

Thriving and progressive, Milwaukee has retained its gemutlichkeit (German for "coziness"), though today's conviviality is as likely to be expressed at a soccer game or at a symphony concert as at the beer garden. And while Milwaukee may still be thought of as the beer capital of the nation, its leading single industy is not brewing but the manufacture of machinery, and the city's German accent has become only a part of the local color of a city known for its good goverment and low crime rate. With a history going back to the days when Native Americans called this area Milliloki, or "gathering place by the waters," Milwaukee provides a diverse roster of attractions, from an award-winning art museum to the headquarters of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
